Features and Benefits

Dramatically Longer Run Times

During an outage, Generac Bi-Fuel™ generators run on a mixture of at least 70% natural gas and no more than 30% diesel fuel. With our 600 kW Bi-fuel generator, you can run continuously for more than three full days on less than 500 gallons of diesel fuel. That's less than most 600 kW diesel gensets will use in just 10 hours.

Reduced Fuel Storage

Because natural gas is the primary fuel, smaller diesel tanks are viable. Less fuel stored on site can lead to easier permitting, lower fuel maintenance costs and reduced risk of environmental liability resulting from diesel fuel spills. In addition, indoor fuel installations with capacities limited by NFPA or local codes may become feasible.

Lower Capital Cost per Kilowatt

Midrange natural gas generators typically cost about twice as much as comparable diesel units. With a Generac Bi-Fuel™ genset, you get the power of diesel and most of the benefits of natural gas operation for a price that is competitive with a diesel-only unit.

Built-in Fuel Redundancy

If there is ever a problem with the natural gas supply, a Generac Bi-Fuel™ generator automatically switches to 100% on-site diesel fuel with no loss of power during the transition. Our system meets the on-site fuel requirements for emergency systems as specified in NEC700 and NFPA110.

Reduced Emissions

Generac Bi-Fuel™ generators emit about 30% less nitrogen oxides and 50% less particulate matter than comparably sized diesel-only units.

Outstanding Transient Response

Because adjustment of the fuel ratio is virtually instantaneous as load conditions change, transient response to sudden loads is superior to spark-ignited systems and very nearly the same as diesel.

Potentially Lower Fuel Costs

Bi-fuel also has a higher thermal efficiency than natural gas solutions, and natural gas prices have historically been lower than diesel. Although fuel prices remain volatile, this could result in operational fuel savings.

Closed Recovery Cooling System

This closed, pressurized system virtually eliminates the introduction of air into the cooling system. Rust and fluid acidity are minimized, resulting in longer engine life.

Isochronous Governor

Constant speed control provides faster response to block loads and a more consistent output frequency. All generators utilizing PowerManager® control systems feature an isochronous governor.

Vibration Isolation

Standard vibration isolators virtually eliminate transmission of vibration from the unit to the mounting surface.

Automatic Alarms & Shutdowns

Generator functions are constantly monitored through a protective system that features solid state circuitry for reliability and long life. NFPA 110 required warnings and alarms provide alerts for a variety of safety and operational concerns. The system automatically shuts down in response to certain critical conditions such as high engine temperature, low coolant level, etc. All generators utilizing PowerManager® control systems meet NFPA 110 requirements for warnings, alarms and alerts.

Advanced Wire Harness Design with Waterproof Connectors

Our wire harness design assures reliable, repeatable interconnection between circuit components. Special sealed connectors protect against moisture, dust and environmental damage.

Solid-State Sensing and Starting Control

Provides the ultimate in engine protection. The magnetic pickup senses overspeed, automatically shuts down the engine, disconnects the starter motor and prevents re-engagement. The system also provides cyclic cranking for improved starting reliability and cranking termination for starter motor protection.

Solid-State, Frequency Compensated Voltage Regulation (V/F)

Provides fast, optimized response to changing load conditions. Maximum motor starting capability is assured by electronically torque-matching the surge loads to the engine.

Permanent Magnet Excitation (PME)

Provides sustained short circuit current for breaker coordination. Increases motor starting capabilities and enhances performance when load-induced harmonics are present.

Easy To Service

All service points are located at the perimeter of the frame for easy access.

Superior Paint

Our textured, powder coat paint process provides consistent coverage and better bonding to seams and exposed edges providing durability and a long-lasting, tough finish.

UL-Listed

All Generac standby generators are UL 2200 listed and our transfer switches are UL 1008 listed. UL listing verifies the kilowatt ratings of our generators and is your assurance that Generac standby systems meet the highest safety standards.
